WWE Raw house show
Rockford,Illinois
July 10th

The first match was Mark Henry vs. Zack Ryder. It started off with Zack going outside the ring every time Mark went to tie up with him. That happened for about 3 minutes. Finally, when the match actually started, it was very short. Zack took out the knee of Mark Henry, only to go off the ropes into the World’s Strongest Slam for the 3 count. Even though it was short, it got the crowd fired up.

Next, Justin Roberts told us to welcome the Rated R Superstar, Edge. Typical heel promo to start out, calling Rockford lame and wondered why they had to come there to wrestle. Then he announced a “special treat, even though you don’t deserve it” in the form of, The Cutting Edge which special guest, the WWE Champion, Sheamus. Then he came out and cut a typical heel promo. Edge asked him if he should be worried about defending his title against Cena later tonight. Sheamus replied with a no because he’s beaten him before, so tonight should be no problem… the the GM sound hits and the lights flicker, and out comes one of the Bellas (I’m not sure which one) and handed Justin Roberts a note stating the title match will now be a Lumberjack match. Edge smiled, said good luck to Sheamus, and left the ring smiling away, as Sheamus stood there with a sad look on his face.

The next match was William Regal vs. The Great Khali. When Regal came out, he took his sweet time getting into the ring. He stood on the apron for a good 2 minutes straight while some fan was yelling at him. Once he finally did get in the ring, He took forever to take his coat thing off. He had to fold it and gently hand it to Justin Roberts. This match started the same way as the first one did, with William Regal going outside the ring to get away from Khali. One time, the boring chants hit heavily, and William Regal just stood there, smiling and nodding. Once he did get back into the ring, he tried to shake hands with Khali, in which Khali took his hand and put him into an armbar, or something, until Regal tried to hit him, which didn’t work. Khali then picked up Regal, hit the two handed choke slam, and then hit the chop to the head for the three count.

Next, both Bellas were out, looking hot, as they asked a very easy trivia question, like always, to someone so they could be the guest bell ringer for the next match. The question was, “What is the name of the next Pay-Per-View this Sunday?” Of course, the woman got it right, answering Money in the Bank, and got to sit ringside for the match.

Third Match was set for one fall, and it was for the Diva’s Championship. Eve was out first to a nice pop from the crowd, followed by Alicia, who had a few fans in the building, with the Diva’s Championship with her. They then announced the Special Guest referee, Santino Marella This was actually a very good match, with a couple of comedic spots with Santino. The finish came with Alicia doing the whole hurt leg act from Raw. Santino held Eve off, and when she did Alicia got up and did her little dancing taunt until Eve looked back over, so she went back to playing the angle. Alicia hit the scissor kick for the win after block the front flip of Eve’s.

The fourth Match was Evan Bourne vs. Edge in probably the match of the night, as far as wrestling is concerned. Momentum was back forth between the both of them the whole match. The ending came when Evan was going for a top rope Frankenstiener, but Edge slid off the rope and pushed Evan off, and Edge got the 3-count. I can see why they are pushing Evan Bourne, as his matches with Jericho on TV, and his match here with Edge were top-notch. Evan took a very hard bump at the end there. After the match, Edge was about to leave the ring, when he went to the corner and tried going for the spear, but Evan countered and hit the Shooting Star Press, which looks amazing in person.

Justin Roberts then did promos for Money in the Bank, WWE Merchandise, and the John Cena autographed pics. The Bellas came out and tried poorly to shoot T-shirts out of a shirt cannon, as none of them reached the upper level of the Metro Centre, which isn’t very hard to do, especially with a cannon.

15 minute intermission.

After the intermission, we are treated to a Unified Tag Team Title match, between the now impressive Uso Brothers w/ Tamina, and the Hart Dynasty w/ Natalya. It was a very good tag team match between the two teams. I never thought much of the Uso Brothers until after this match. The Hart Dynasty is very good at keeping the crowd into it, rallying the fans, talking to them, getting the hot tags, and I feel they should stay face. The Hart Dynasty won with the Heart Attack to retain their titles.

Next match was a Triple Threat Match for the United States Championship. First out was the champion, The Miz, who cut a promo asking us if we thought we could beat him up, which of course, everyone said yes. Like Edge, The Miz talked about how bad Rockford is, in which I actually agree with him. He then states that he is one of the most dominate superstars in the in the locker room, “Because I’m The Miz… and I’m… No, you do not get to say my catchphrase! You need to shut your mouths, your not good enough to say my catchphrase, because I’m The Miz... and I’m AWESOME” It was a great heel promo in my eyes by The Miz. Next out was Ted DiBiase, without Maryse, but with the Million Dollar Championship. And then, last but defiantly not least, was John Morrison. This was probably the next best wrestling match of the night, second only to the Edge-Bourne match from earlier. Morrison worked the whole match, with only The Miz and DiBiase taking turns outside. Finish came when John Morrison hit Starship Plain on Ted DiBiase, then Miz broke up the count and hit the Skull Crushing Finale on Morrison, and then getting the win to retain his US Title.

And then it was time for the Main Event. First out was Sheamus to an enormous amount of boos, with the title proudly around his waist. There was a long pause between “Written in Their Face” and “My Time Was Now”, but once it hit, the roof blew off the place. There is no doubt that Rockford, Illinois is a Cena town. He came sprinting to the ring, threw his hat out, threw up the HLR sign, and did his sprint of the ropes. Before Justin Roberts could announce the opponents, the GM sound hits and out comes one of the Bellas again. Justin Roberts read off the card that was handed to him. It stated that the lumberjacks for the match would be Nexus. I marked out for that announcement; I’m a fan of this storyline, as well as the Nexus themselves. Out come the entire Nexus as they surround the ring, with only Barrett at the “ramp”. Sheamus was the first to get thrown out of the ring, and Nexus surrounded him with huge smiles on their faces, and beat the bloody heck out of him before throwing him back into the ring. They did this several times to both Sheamus and Cena. Cena and Sheamus both did their usual moves in this one. Towards the end of the match, Cena rolled outside, and Barrett told the rest of the Nexus not to beat him up. So Skip Shefield got the ring steps and creamed Cena with them. They then rolled him into the ring for Sheamus to get the cover, put Cena kicked out. Sheamus tried to pick Cena up for that Celtric slam he does, but Cena hit the Attitude Adjustment on Sheamus instead, who kicked out. Sheamus then hit the kick on Cena, who kicked out. Cena then got Sheamus in the STFU, when the Nexus came in and just destroyed Cena. After a minute of beatdown, here comes all of the face superstars to fight off the Nexus which ended the show in a huge pop.

So there’s my review sorry it was so long, but there was a lot to talk about. Overall, it was probably the best show I’ve seen in person. It was even better than the ECW/Smackdown TV Taping from last year. I really enjoyed it, and I feel everyone else in Rockford did too. The only problem I had with it, is that Chris Jericho was advertised, but he never showed up. Randy Orton also did not make an appearance, which bummed me out, but they made up for it with a great show… 9/10 stars.

Just a few side notes: I cheered for everyone... I mean it; I was all over the place in every match. I cheered every move, every entrance, everyone. I also yelled out Wade Barrett’s name, he looked over and nodded at me. I even yelled spear at Edge when he was in the corner closest to me, and he look at me like he was trying to say “Don’t cheer for me, I’m not supposed to be cheered for.”

Biggest Pops:

1. Cena
2. Hart Dynasty
3. John Morrison

Biggest Heat:
1. Sheamus
2. The Miz
3. The Nexus

Biggest Tweener: Edge

WWE Supershow house show results
Omaha,Nebraska
June 17th

(1) Christian defeated Cody Rhodes. Pretty solid opener. Christian won with the Killswitch. Cody had a lot of heat, and is stronger on the mic compared to former Legacy mate Ted DiBiase.

(2) Santino defeated Zach Ryder. It wasn't even that much of a comedy match, but a joke move, The Cobra, won the match for Santino. It looks ridiculous in person.

(3) U.S. champion The Miz defeated Mark Henry and Evan Bourne in a three-way match to retain the U.S. Title. Originally, it was Miz vs. Evan, but the Raw GM "emailed" Justin Roberts's cell phone and announced Mark Henry was added to the match. Evan hit the Air Bourne on Henry, but Miz made the cover for the win.

Jillian Hall asked a kid to name Sunday's PPV. He got it right, so he was special bellringer for the next match.

(4) John Morrison defeated Ted DiBiase (w/Maryse). Basic match between the two and Morrison won with Starship Pain. During the match, Maryse took a fan's clown wig and gave it to DiBiase, who rubbed it on his butt. Morrison then later wore it and paraded around with it.

(5) Unified tag champions Hart Dynasty (Tyson Kidd & D.H. Smith w/Natalya) defeated the Uso Brothers (Jey & Jimmy Uso w/Tamina). Basic match we've seen between the two teams in the past. I will say Natalya looks even better in person compared to TV. Smith won via the Sharpshooter.

Jillian came out again to help throw shirts into the crowd.

[Intermission]

(6) Intercontinental champion Kofi Kingston defeated Matt Hardy, Dolph Ziggler, and Drew McIntyre in a fatal four-way match to retain the Intercontinental Title. Drew worked the mic early on, but he was rather sloppy, I thought. Maybe it was a bad microphone. Hardy and Mac brawled, then Dolph ran in until Kofi came out to jumpstart the match. After the match, Kofi and Matt shook hands while Drew threw chairs around. Ziggler was selling being out cold from Kofi's kick and referees helped him to the back. The crowd gave him a round of applause.

(7) Divas champion Alicia Fox defeated Eve. Another basic match.

(8) John Cena & Randy Orton & Big Show & World Hvt. champion Rey Mysterio vs. WWE champion Sheamus & Edge & Chris Jericho & Jack Swagger ended in a No Contest when Nexus ran in. Very fun eight-man tag. Swagger played to the Nebraska crowd by wearing an Oklahoma hat that a fan tossed him. The heels had a lot of heat and the faces received all of the biggest pops of the night. In a funny moment, Big Show asked for Justin Roberts to hold up the mic, then he shushed the crowd and told them "I'm hittin' Swagga" in an Elmer Fudd voice. Cena had Sheamus in the STF when Nexus ran in. Kane's music then hit and he joined other faces to make the save. They cleared out Nexus to send the crowd home happy.

Biggest pop of the night: John Cena

Most Heat of the night: The Miz

WWE RAW House show (7/23/10) - Houston, Texas
Good crowd on hand, one of the upper decks is covered as is the side of the stadium where the stage would be for a TV show. Toyota Center normal holds around 18k.

* Santino Marrella & Vladimir Kozlov vs. Zack Ryder & William Regal
- Santino and Vlad out first to a big pop, lots of Santino chants. Ryder and Regal come out arguing because Ryder didn't wait for Regal. Basically a long version of their TV matches. The crowd was really into Santion throughout. Funny spot where Regal got knocked down and ran and hugged Ryder's waist, much to Ryder's displeasure. Santion pinned Regal after the cobra.

The Miz was out next and cut a promo on how nobody every has believed in him, saying people thought he was going to get "future endeavored." Big time heat throughout the promo. Goes on to say he's going to be the first ever WWE and United States Champion because he's not going to defend the US Title till he wins the WWE Championship.

The GM sound went off and Justin Roberts announced that Miz would be forced to face the title against Texas' own Mark Henry. Miz was out of the ring most of the match, with Henry dominating when Miz was in the ring. Miz tried to use the briefcase but was stopped by the ref, as the ref was getting rid of the briefcase Miz picked up the US Title and hit with it Henry for the pin.

* Ted DiBiase w/ Maryse vs. Goldust
- Crowd wasn't very hot for either of these for the entrances. Teddy offered Goldust 1,000 dollars to walk away and not embarrass himself. Goldust said it was a lot of money, but not enough and then hit him. Good match from these too, both worked really hard, especially Goldust. DiBiase got the pinfall via Dream Street after some distraction from Maryse.

(I'm not sure of the order of these next two matches)

* Hart Dynasty vs. The Uso's for the Tag titles
- Hart Dynasty was over with the Houston crowd. This was a good match if you've liked the work they've done on TV and PPV lately. Kidd got the pin after a Hart Attack.

* Chris Jericho vs. Evan Bourne
- Jericho was out to a mixed reaction. Started to a cut a promo several times then didn't. Good back and forth match. Finishing sequence came after two top rope battles with Jericho going for a superplex but being denied. Bourne was able to hit Air Bourne for the win the second time to a big pop. Bourne was talking to the trainer about his ribs after the match. During the match Jericho got split it appeared and had to be attended to.

* Intermission

* Alicia Fox vs. Eve Torres for the Diva's title.
- Same stuff from them, but with more time. Fox gets the win via scissors kick.

* Randy Orton vs. Edge Street Fight
- Edge came out to a mixed reaction, Orton came out to the biggest pop of the night to that point. Really fun match. They went out to the crowd some before returning for a pretty standard match. Cool spot where Orton went to hit Edge with the ring steps but was drop toe hold into them instead. Edge set up a trash can in the corner and then tried to spear Orton. Orton moved and Edge went face first into the trash can. A short while later Orton won via RKO on to a second trash can.

* Sheamus vs. John Cena for the WWE Title
- Sheamus got great heat on his way out. Cena came out to a MASSIVE pop. WOW place was way into him. GM announced that Nexus would be the lumberjacks for this match. Cena played face in peril getting thrown outside to be beaten on most the match. Sheamus also got beaten on a little too. Cena kicked out of the brouge kick and then hit an Attitude Adjustment that Sheamus kicked out off. Finish came when Sheamus went for his Pale Justice/Celtic Cross/Razor's Edge move and Cena reversed it into the STF. Nexus hit the ring causing a no contest. They started a beat down and then Santino and Bourne came out for an unsuccessful save.

Shortly after "I hear voices" hit and the crowd went nuts. Orton comes out with Edge, Jericho and company to clear house. Jericho and Edge chase Nexus off as the faces pose in the ring.

Really fun show, very impressed with how crazy Houston was for Cena.

Biggest Pop:
John Cena
Randy Orton
Edge

Most Heat:
Sheamus
Nexus
Edge

WWE House Show Results (7/30): Tallahassee, Florida

Greetings from downtown Tallahassee, Florida! Tonight’s stop on the Raw World Tour is a house show from the Civic Center (I’d call it about 60% full, though I’m terrible at judging such things). If you’ve never been to a house show before, they’re not quite the same spectacle as a televised event. In this case, there’s not even a ramp, so obviously there’s no pyro nor a Titantron. On the positive side, no announce tables means no interruptions by “e-mails from the GM.” The interruptions themselves don’t bother me… but why do the lights always flicker when Michael Cole gets a new e-mail? Yes, I spend too much time thinking about such things.

In any case, Jamie Keyes (the NXT ring announcer) is going to be our emcee for tonight’s event. I’m pretty sure you could forge steel on her calves.

Santino Marella and Vladimir Kozlov are tonight’s curtain-jerkers, and they’re facing off against the Usos with Tamina. Jimmy and Jey actually got some pretty good heat from the crowd after they began walking to the ring (though nobody seemed to recognize their music when it hit). Tamina is wearing more clothing than normal – I don’t think I’ve ever seen her in jeans before. I also can’t help but notice she has approximately the same wingspan as Tayshaun Prince. The match itself was enjoyable; Santino is designed for house shows, and he can actually tell a pretty compelling story in the ring when he’s given more than a 30-second squash match to work with. The finish was sort of interesting, too. Tamina was on the apron complaining to the official, and Santino (in a daze, looking for the hot tag) wandered over and kissed her on the lips. Jey and Santino chased each other around the ring, while Kozlov hit his finisher on Jimmy for the clean pin.
Winners: Santino and Kozlov

As soon as the bell sounded, Nexus hit the ring to beat up Marella and Kozlov (the Usos took a powder). Wade Barrett cut a promo pumping up the night’s main event: John Cena, Chris Jericho, and John Morrison vs. Nexus.

When everyone had made it to the back, Ted DiBiase and Maryse were next up. DiBiase grabbed a mic and talked about being “the most overlooked Superstar” on the roster, and that he should be on John Cena’s team for SummerSlam. He then issued an open challenge to the members of Cena’s team to face him in a one-on-one match. The Great Khali’s music hit, and he spent the next four minutes walking from the entrance to the ring apron. No Ranjin Singh in the house tonight, by the way. On an unrelated note, I’d pay $30 to see Singh and Bret Hart run a competitive 200-meter dash.

The match was excruciating, but fortunately it didn’t last too long. I spent approximately 70% of my time watching Maryse (who unfortunately had no active role to play tonight). Khali finished DiBiase off with a swanton bomb. Okay, okay… I’m kidding. He won by squeezing DiBiase’s head with both hands until the Million Dollar Champion passed out. Riveting action.
Winner: The Great Khali

Then came a 20-minute stretch of “Future Endeavors” candidates, led off by the Bella Twins. They selected a guest timekeeper with an easy trivia question (“Name three members of the Raw Team who will fight against Nexus at SummerSlam”). Some little kid got the honor – he followed in the guest timekeeper footsteps of Ricky Schroeder and the “Where’s the Beef?” lady from the Wendy’s commercials in the ‘80s.

Yoshi Tatsu and Primo fought next. Yoshi continues to disregard Vince McMahon’s rumored mandate by doling out Ric Flair chops on a nightly basis. He and Primo work well in the ring together, and they put on a pretty tight match. Tatsu won with a schoolboy rollup.
Winner: Yoshi Tatsu

As soon as the bell rang, Chris Jericho sprinted in out of nowhere to deliver a Codebreaker to Tatsu. He cut an entertaining promo in the ring, hitting the same talking points from Monday’s episode of Raw (he’ll take out the Nexus, then he’s coming for you, John Cena). He engaged in a bit of preening before walking to the back, and the crowd was hot – it’s funny that Jericho can generate more heat without saying a word than 90% of the roster can with a mic and a talk show segment. If we truly are nearing the end of his run with the WWE, there’s going to be a huge void to fill on the heel side.

William Regal and Goldust faced off next, and I was the only person in Tallahassee excited about this matchup. It’s been so long since I’ve seen either one of these guys win a match that I can’t remember their current finishing moves. I was hoping they’d break out Shattered Dreams or The Regal Stretch for old times’ sake. Alas, it wasn’t meant to be: after Regal missed a running kick (that looked suspiciously like an attempt at a Punt), Goldust lamely rolled him up with the schoolboy. Clean pin.
Winner: Goldust

I hear voices in my head… The crowd popped about twice as loud for Randy Orton’s music as it had at any other moment in the show thus far. Orton’s out now with a mic in his hand. He says he doesn’t want to wait till SummerSlam – he doesn’t even want to wait until the end of the night. He wants a title shot with Sheamus right now. Sheamus (no mic time for him, sadly enough) was happy to oblige, and the WWE Championship match was underway. You’ve seen these two fight this match before – though it’s still entertaining. After all, these two use my favorite backbreaker variations in the world. Yes, I make lists of things like that in my head. Anyway, after Orton hit his usual moves (minus the delayed DDT, which was countered), he went for an RKO. Sheamus blocked it, then connected with the Brogue Kick and went for the pin. Orton kicked out at two, which sent Sheamus into a pretty epic tantrum. Sheamus eventually rolled out of the ring and grabbed a folding chair, which the referee tried to wrestle away from him. Sheamus shoved the ref out of the way (earning a disqualification), then swung the chair at Orton. Orton ducked the chair, then hit the RKO as the fans absolutely erupted.
Winner (by DQ): Randy Orton

No better time than this to get us to spend our money, right? Jamie Keyes stepped into the spotlight again for a short sales pitch for the merchandise table (including John Cena autographed photos). The Bella Twins emerged once more to fire some t-shirts out of a cannon, then we took a 15-minute intermission.

Coming out of intermission, we got our first and only Divas match of the night. Jillian Hall and Alicia Fox fought Eve Torres and Gail Kim. Gail and Jillian managed the biggest botch of the night – I believe the technical term for the move is “hurricanfuckup.” The end came when Fox missed her scissors kick on Eve, leading to a pin attempt. Jillian broke up the pin, but Fox began berating her for interfering. Jillian eventually got sick of Fox and shoved her toward Eve (who gamely pinned her with our third rollup victory of the night).
Winners: Gail Kim and Eve Torres

The Miz comes out with his Money in the Bank briefcase in hand. He cut the most memorable promo of the night, claiming that he’d originally planned to cash in his title shot tonight, but then realized he’d never want to win his first WWE Championship in Tallahassee. If he had to win the title in Florida, he’d only consider doing so in Gainesville, since that’s the city of champions. (For those from outside the area, Tallahassee is the home of Florida State University, and Gainesville is host to the rival University of Florida). After some unkind comments about Evan Bourne, he finished by admonishing the crowd that they didn’t deserve to say his catchphrase along with him. Silly heels… that never works.

Bourne and Miz followed up with what was (in my opinion) the best match of the night. I was skeptical about Miz’s in-ring skills for a long time, but the newer, more vicious version we’ve seen of him lately (beginning with his assault on R. Truth a few weeks ago) leaves me looking forward to his matches as much as I do his work on the mic. Bourne was, as always, entertaining as hell; he even threw in one pin attempt I don’t recall ever having seen before (I won’t try to describe it – just know that I couldn’t do it without tearing a hamstring). The finish came when Evan had control of the match and went for Air Bourne. Miz brought his knees up at the last second, then won with the clean pin.
Winner: The Miz

The final match of the night was a 3-on-3 tag team contest between the Nexus (represented by Wade Barrett, Skip Sheffield, and David Otunga) against John Cena, Chris Jericho, and John Morrison. If you’ve ever wondered why Vince McMahon loves John Cena so much, you have to see Cena at a house show. All the other established stars play these things at half-speed – by comparison, Cena seems like he must have received a cappuccino enema just before his music hits.

They played up the tension between Jericho and Cena whenever they had the opportunity, but most of the match was spent watching Morrison get pummeled by the Nexus. They used common tag team heel tactics to keep JoMo away from his corner, and it was literally about 7-8 minutes straight of waiting for the hot tag. As someone who’s never been in the ring, it’s tough for me to tell – is Sheffield a little sloppy in the ring, does he work a little stiffer than everyone else, or is he just really good at selling his offense? I noticed this before on some of his clotheslines, but tonight it seemed like everything he did just sounded louder than what everyone else was doing.

Eventually Morrison was able to break away to his corner. Jericho subtly turned away from the corner so that Cena was the only person eligible to be tagged. Cena comes in… you know the deal. Flying shoulderblocks, sit-out suplex, You Can’t See Me! – the whole works. Jericho snuck in behind Cena just like he did on Raw, only this time Cena saw the Codebreaker coming and shoved him away. Cena clotheslined Jericho over the top rope, then knocked out Sheffield while Morrison and Otunga brawled on the outside. He locked Barrett into the STF, and just when it looked like the referee was going to call for the bell, the remaining members of Nexus came sprinting to the ring. They were in control for a few moments, then the faces from tonight’s earlier matches (led by Evan Bourne) all sprinted to the ring to even the score.

Most of Nexus escaped, but the Raw Superstars managed to trap Justin Gabriel and Heath Slater. Yoshi and Khali took turns chopping the Nexus members’ chests (Khali ripped Slater’s shirt off before leaving a huge red handprint on his chest). Then Gabriel took an RKO and Slater got an Attitude Adjustment. Finally, Cena laid Slater’s body on top of Gabriel’s so that the crowd could be sent home on an Air Bourne.
